“As part of a major charitable healthcare project in Sri Lanka, in 1998, MOTIVATION ask Ann Winder, because of her well-established excellent reputation as a continence advisor, to join in a project to help train healthcare staff in its civilian spinal injury service. She focused on safe and effective urinary tract management in spinal cord injuries, wisely tailoring the programme to their particular needs. Ann’s expertise in teaching, training and running clinical services as well as her extensive specialist knowledge proved invaluable. In recognition of her successful work there the Sri Lanka Medical Association invited Ann back in 1999 to contribute to its first national spinal cord injuries conference. Shortly thereafter its government awarded the spinal unit ‘national centre of excellence status’. We are immensely grateful to Ann.”

“Ann Winder’s knowledge is only surpassed by her passion to improve the lives of those suffering with incontinence. With the support of ARC we can make a significant difference to the care of those with continence problems. Just like the rest of us, producers and editors often shy away from the subject of continence, which means it doesn’t get the air time it deserves.”

I have known Ann as a friend and colleague for over 15 years. My first memories were of Ann running a specialist clinic with Prof Paul Abrams, I was a fairly green junior doctor at that stage and was one of a group of registrars that regarded Paul with a degree of terror. His international reputation did not appear to phase Ann, she was one of the few people that could tell him what to do!
Ann’s knowledge within Urology and incontinence are without parallel in the UK, she also has extensive experience of high-level management, working within the financial constraints imposed by the National Health Service. She is also one of the most delightfulpeople I have had the pleasure working with, I wish her well in her new venture”
