Valerie Bayliss

RN, MSc, Clinical Nurse Specialist/Continence Service Manager.

Valerie been working in the field of continence care for 27 years has always been interested in research and improving clinical skills.  She values collaborative projects as it provides the opportunity to benchmark services against each other.

On a day to day basis Valerie’s workload consists of running nurse lead clinics, teaching, visiting patients at home and managing the service. Her clinical work consists of undertaking full medical history, assessing symptoms, diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Valerie develops Care Pathways for Continence which are presented at major conferences and have been requested from as far away as Australia.  In 2009, she jointly published the “Continence Care Pathways Handbook” though Wiley-Blackwell.

Other projects have included:

  • Benchmarking services with West Wiltshire PCT
  • Reviewing clinic settings and efficiency with Mendip PCT
  • Urine testing competencies with Mendip PCT
  • Meeting the needs of carers with Swindon PCT
