Katherine Wilkinson

RN, DN, MA, FAETC, Independent and Supplementary Nurse Prescriber.

kath-wilkinsonKatherine joined Airedale PCT in Yorkshire in 1993 from a district nursing background as part of the continence service. She is currently a Nurse Consultant and Continence Service Manager at the merged Bradford and Airedale Teaching PCT, leading a team of 13 staff. The continence team in Bradford and Airedale have received several awards for their innovative work in this field.

Katherine gained a Masters Degree in Independent Practice (Nursing) with merit from the University of Leeds in 1999.

In 2001, she served 3 years as a member of the Association for Continence Advice executive committee, taking the lead on education. In 2004 she became a member of the Royal College of Nurses Continence Forum Steering Committee, and is currently the Chairperson.

Katherine is passionate about continence care and has a vast amount of experience in this field including:

  • Developing an online learning module on urinary catheter care
  • Creating a competency framework on urinary catheterisation for healthcare assistants
  • Providing education on continence care for health and social care staff
  • Assessing and managing individuals with bladder dysfunctions
  • Developing a primary care pathway for women with urinary incontinence
  • Auditing continence services
  • Independent Nurse prescribing for continence care
  • Nurse led management of overactive bladder
  • Promoting continence to ethnic minority groups

Katherine has presented her work at national and international conferences on continence care and has had numerous journal articles published. She is available for lecturing, chairing conferences, publication writing, advisory board meetings as well as consultancy work relating to the field of continence care.

Katherine is married with three teenage children, three chickens and a couple of ponies. She lives in West Yorkshire.
